What is a Saveloy?

What is Saveloy?

If you've read my blog on how to eat fish and chips the right way, you've got an idea, but basically Saveloy is a very British sausage!

Every time I return to England there are a few dishes that I really miss, one is the British kebab with burger sauce, the other is saveloy and fries. What makes it unique is hard to say, but in all my travels I have had to find something even very similar. Let's make our sausage!

In short, Saveloy is a strong-flavored sausage, usually bright red in color (pink in the middle), and a staple of our fish and chip shop. If you want to get everything awesome, check out the Wikipedia article.

Why is it called safety?

No one's really sure, but it probably comes from the Latin word "cerebrus" - the (stupid) pork sausage this crazy Swiss definitely loves.

So what is safety?

Simply put, I'm fine! According to its Swiss cousin, the original saveloy was made from pig brain, but today it is made as follows - usually pork (58%), water, rusks, lard, potato starch, salt, emulsifier (tetrasodium diphosphate, disodium diphosphate), white pepper, spices - Spices, dried sage (sage), preservatives (sodium nitrite, potassium nitrate) and beef collagen skin. Sounds delicious, right?

Saveloy vs Sausage - What's the Difference?

Did you know that all dogs are animals, so all animals are dogs? Correctly. Sausage makes a very, very spacious church, while our humble salvation is just a very flavorful sausage form.

Can you find safety outside the UK?

Apparently they are a thing in Australia and New Zealand, both former British colonies, both of which have a great chip shop culture. Unfortunately I didn't try.

It turns out that there is also sausage in Maine (USA) which is hardly different from sava, which is served more like an American-style hot dog.

Has anyone ever eaten saveloy?

Maybe a lot, but Fagin ate one at Oliver Twist. There are useless facts about quizzes in pubs!

How are your meals stored?

Well it's a sausage so eat it as a sausage, what I'm going to talk about here is how to serve it. Again, these are traditionally available in fish and chip shops across the country and are boiled, not fried.

Saveloys are a big deal in the north east of England and can be purchased at a butcher shop. I haven't tried it yet but you do and eat it in a pea pudding sandwich, a lot of English custard pudding I could write about any day.

Do you have any more nonsensical information about Saveloys?

Yes, I'm glad you asked. When I was a kid in the south east of England, we always said oi oi saveloy when we saw a friend we usually hadn't seen in a long time.

And that's all you need to know about the humble savior! You're welcome!
